18 Aug 2007 - Lyke Wake Walk completed
Many thanks to Gill and Margaret for the support they gave during the day and food they provided to keep us going.
This was part 3 of the 4part challenge completed which is raising money to repair the church tower.
Visit www.justgiving.com/chrisandtrev if you can give any financial support to the challenge.
Just a half marathon to run now
This is the report sent to the Lyke Wake Walk clubsite:
At midnight or just before on the 17th, Trevor Lewis and I (Chris Greenwood) set off from Osmotherley. It was fine but dark, as it is at that time of night. We set off at a good pace, keeping to 3 mph and not having a stop until Clay Bank where we had a quick sandwich and hot drink, then off again. The boring bit came and went as did the dawn and the rain(which stayed). Full waterproofs were put on and it was wet and windy when we met up with our support party( Our wives, Gill and Margaret).Bacon butties and a hot drink were eaten and drank. People travelling to Rosedale show looked bemused as they saw us sat by the roadside in the rain and mist eating bacon butties. We set off onto the wet section and met two walkers coming the other way who said it was very dry on the top, and it was. The crossing continued in the mix of rain and mist, and one sunny spell. We met up on time at each point with our support, who had problems with keeping the stove lit in the wind, and had strange looks when setting up camp near to Fylingdale as the peace protestors were setting up outside Heathrow. The walk was completed in the rain at 5pm. With a total of 2.5 hours at checkpoints a 14.5 hour walking time was calculated and two happy bunnies went home, and to be honest had no real ill effects the day after.
