Christian Listening and Healing
Christian Listening and Healing
St Martins has several trained Christian Listeners who can help people by listening to them, with God. They have been trained through the York Diocese Equipping Gods People programme by Acorn accredited tutors.
What is Christian Listening used for?
Everyone needs to listen well to others if they are to have a good quality of relationships with others. We all have problems within our lives and at time they get to a level that we can not deal with them on our own. Having someone Just Listen to your problems in an active mode can help you work them out.Sometimes it is not a problem we have, but we just need to tell something to someone who will listen.
Actively listening to a person can have a great healing effect on that person and it is always done in complete confidence.
Why do we do it?
Being a Christian church we aim to follow the example of Jesus who offered such an excellent example of listening. However there is no intention to impose Christian beliefs on people, but if they wish to explore Christianity then they are welcome to do so.
Is this counselling?
No. Listening is different to counselling, though it is often used in conjunction with it.
How do I get listened to?
If you feel you need to be listened to you can make an appointment by attending one of our office hours or coming along to St Martins when one of our church services are on. An appointment needs to be made to allow you sufficient time to say what you need to say, in confidence.
